I just walked my dog and it totally hit me. The sunset was partly clouded above the ocean as the big orange blob hit the horizon and made it all red and purple. As I walked down my hill toward the ocean the wind picks up, and it is a nice chill on my skin. The fact that this adventure is going to change my own life, save my own life. I started thinking of those that it will be life changing for as well. I get filled with excitement for the adventure that awaits. Change is hard, I will technically be homeless at the end of the year and then jobless in summer when school ends. Surprisingly I am excited and welcoming the change and the new life this project has breathed in to my every cell.
My short term contract is up in June, why did I not find this awesome school program sooner. (insert heavy sigh) I will be trading my ocean breeze, my home and the community in for mountains fields, forests, rivers, trees, and more. Truly embarking on an adventure that will chart the course for the rest of my life. For now I am consuming all that my new job is offering. I am like a sponge lapping up the knowledge from the mentor. Today I learned some lessons on aesthetics for business edible gardens. Sitting on a sidewalk, in front of the business, planting the new garden boxes, blue skies and sunshine above, ocean air, good company. Makes it so hard to think that in less then 1 short year things will be so excitingly different.
Regarding the project, about to meet with the next political office for the city in crisis. Thinking thru what I will be asking for specifically. As I learned by the last meeting, government is really limited in what it can do. I still think there are things that the politicians could help us with and in turn help their constituents, even if that means losing a voter in their district. I am also starting to draft some letters to possible sponsors/donors. I have also been collecting details on intentional communities that we can include in our journey. I am really interested in visiting a variety, and specifically Ubuntu, Venus, FSP and RBE, along with the many farms, ranches and friends places. We hope to build many places in to our system for others to find.
There was this oddity last week, a person who interviewed me a year or so ago, reconnected with me. I mean come universe, this is something right. I know she can help me get my project in a different medium to share it to a wider audience.
Ok lovelies, don’t forget to plant your cool season crops now. Greens, carrots, radishes, beets, onions, shiso, etc.
“Change can be frightening, and the temptation is often to resist it. But change almost always provides opportunities – to learn new things, to rethink tired processes, and to improve the way we work” – Klaus Schwab I would edit the end and say to “improve the way we live”
