I have wanted to attend the flower festival since I saw it advertised on my visit a year ago to Chiang Mai. This year as the city started to decorate and prepare for it, I made sure I would be going. Now I am not a morning person and the parade started at some gawdawful hour of like 8am. However, around 5pm, I went to the display area, a stretch of street adjacent to the moat, so on the moat side it was all tents, either with the contestants of all the contests including their awards on display and vendors selling all sorts of plants big and small. From Cactus to air plants to bonsai’s.
We strolled down the center of the street getting to see each float parked single file down the middle. They where huge, reminiscent of my homes Rose Bowl Parade. One float was even entirely made of bamboo.
More floats here
And more photos
We even came home with some life for the condo. It was well worth the time. It is free to wander around and look at all the plants and the flowers and floats. Within a few hours it was so packed full of people, we decided to make our getaway. I suggest going before 6pm.
Thank you! I really enjoy your updates.
