Today I spent a few hours with some young men who are trying to better themselves in overcoming addiction. They dug holes for some good size dwarf trees to be planted at a community garden. Apricot, orange pomegranate and plum. I shared my adventures plans with the guys and they all got really excited about it. I know this is going to be a fantastic time. I just need to find the way to make the purchase of the required vehicle. Until I can begin that adventure I have to complete my commitments to the cities I have garden programming for. It will buy me time to try and find a way to get that vehicle and also purge my stuff down to a manageable and movable size. All the pre-planning is inspiring me to set a date, I just cannot yet. Making the to do list and starting to check it off.
None of it matters anymore, certainly not a job, not the over priced apartment, not the stock market or the government. What really matters is changing the way cities and communities look at localizing their food sources, to stop relying on the fossil fuels to move food from one state to another, or in some cases from one country to another. Today we made a tiny speck of an impact by planting fruit bearing trees in public space (a park). Think what having food bearing trees and shrubs in all public space. The kids who can pick from a apricot tree when they visit their favorite park to play at. Or being able to pick an orange as you take a walk around your neighborhood.
I am a city girl, born and raised in Los Angeles, traveled parts of the world and many states but a city girl indeed. I intend on changing that. Spending time to understand what really matters in life. As I near my half a century mark I realize I do not want to be working exchanging my time for money then have to use that money to pay to a rent/mortgage until I drop dead. I would rather, get my hands dirty and learn how to live a less materialistic, less consumerist, less enslaved life.
Stay Tuned…
