This past week has been a learning experience. I learned that the city does not know how to tackle the homeless crisis we are currently in. This past year the homeless population grew by 23% do you get that, 23 out of every 100 people in LA became homeless in the past 12 months. This trend is not stopping. We are also dealing with a rent crisis meaning, the housing shortage has been even more difficult since it is driving rents sky high. Add that on top of the current model of gentrification that have impacted almost all of Los Angeles now. You need only search the web to get the figures and details on which I speak.
The city of LA had lost tow companies due to the overwhelming requests from the city to tow peoples RVs but today I heard they brought on like 7 more tow companies to do the dirt work of violating the 4th amendment rights of the homeless.
I have a program that could be used in place of the tow and destroy. Rather we would make sure the vehicles are road worthy and the driver is legal to drive. Each person that wanted to take part would simply register and download the mobile app to get all the info on work trades, free camping, a step by step guide and community to support them on the journey. The only requirement is to follow the rules at the farms and on the lands. (usually no drugs, some no smoking). People would be given the opportunity to become independent and self reliant. Work trades will create free labor force for organic farms in return of food and hook ups for the member. You could spend as much or as little time doing either camping/fishing or working at a farm or even help build intentional communities that are popping up across the country.
This journey is not just for me and mine but I see it as a whole solution for a percent of the population. I can see changes in peoples health both physical and mental. Reconnecting with nature, eating clean food, doing a good days labor outside, enjoying the company of others, traveling the country, meeting your countrymen or just fishing by a stream.
I look forward to the day I start cutting the path for others to follow.
